A/V Equipment and X10 Home Automation Integration

Last updated on October 23, 2016 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

In addition to remote controls that allow you to control your X10 home automation, we offer controllers that connect with your existing A/V equipment and other technology, as well.

5-in-1 Universal Remote

The UR73A is made by the Powerhouse brand and is truly a power house, allowing you to control up to 5 A/V devices from a single remote. Alternatively, you could control as many appliances or lights throughout your home, from anywhere in the house. Replacing up to 5 individual infrared remotes, the R73A includes a separate DSS and X10 keys and has a code library with listings that accommodate most cable boxes, satellite and DSS, TVs, DVD players, CD players, and home automation systems. All you have to do is insert 4 AAA batteries and look up the codes for each of your devices using a simple key sequence. By combining the UR73A with any wireless transceiver, our infrared-to-X10 converter, or X10 security system base receiver — as well as your choice of X10 modules for lights or other appliances, you can use this single remote to operate any IR-controlled devices; however, the RF part of the remote can be used for X10 home automation products.

Please note that the “TV mode” key can be used only for TV codes; however, the other keys can be used for any devices. This remote cannot learn from other remotes, though, so if you need that kind of capability, the UR74A would be a better choice for you.

Universal 5-in-1 Learning Remote

The UR74A Universal 5-in-1 Learning Remote is definitely an example of streamlined design and electronic integration. This RF/IR Remote has the capability of controlling several A/V devices with a single remote, along with your X10 home automation system. The X10 “Super Key” allows you to communicate RF commands with your X10 modules, via a wireless transceiver. With the UR74A, you have IR technology to control your DVD player, CD player, TV, and game console, as well as IR X10 commands, for those who have Infrared X10 Command Consoles such as the RE549 Powermid. It can also coordinate with IR-controlled air conditioning units and drapery controls. The RF technology allows you the optimal home theater capability of switching on or off lighting or dimming it, whenever appropriate.

Firecracker Computer Interface Module

The CM17A FireCracker Computer Interface Module allows a different kind of A/V automation. You can control all your X10-automated lights and appliances from your computer desktop with this handy little device. The CM17A Firecracker can be plugged into any computer’s serial port, allowing you to bring up a virtual X10 Remote Control on your own computer screen. The pass-through design allows you to plug in an additional serial-port device, as well. You’ll be able to select On, OFF, DIM, or BRIGHT for any X10-compatible modules throughout your home. You will also need to purchase a TM751 X10 Plug-In RF Base and download our free Firecracker Software, as well as the appropriate Appliance or Lamp Modules.
