Two all-new Wifi Video Cameras recently came onto the market. The LI2 Wireless HD IP Stick Camera and LQ2 Wireless HD IP Ball Camera (available in White or Black) are both excellent choices for those financially savvy, tech-loving parents out there who are smart enough to forego the usual niche market of baby monitors. But that begs the question: Which one is right for you?
Common Features
The LI2 and LQ2 definitely have more in common than they do to differentiate them — so we’ll start there. These cameras both include impressive, advanced technology, especially for their price points. Features such as voice-directed setup and automated audible linking between your Apple or Android phone make setup a breeze for both models. Both also include loud, internal speakers and receptive microphones to accommodate clear 2-way communications. A number of IR night vision nodes provide coverage of up to 25 feet, even in complete darkness. Ultra-crisp HD video (1280*720p) can be streamed to and recorded on your phone, as long as you have internet or cellular service; video can also be recorded locally (without expensive DVR equipment) via a microSD card, and an 8GB card is included with both models.
App-based functionality means that you can be notified anytime the motion sensors are activated. After the baby stage, either style of camera could be used as part of a home intercom system; alternatively, either camera model can be paired with other X10 Home Security products to provide 5-level Home Security protection. Both models also include a magnetic base, providing an easy mounting option for metal surfaces.
Model-Specific Features
The LI2 Wireless HD IP Stick Camera comes in white and has a rectangular design that makes a swivel joint the best way to allow its range of vision to expand. Its mountable screw-in base also allows for permanent or wall-mounting, something no other interior-only X10 camera includes. The LI2 includes 14 IR night vision nodes. At a slightly higher price point than the LQ2, these features may or may not be worth it for your use.
The LQ2 Wireless HD IP Ball Camera, as we already mentioned, comes in both White and Black color options. It includes 10 IR night vision nodes, and its round shape is supported by a tilt-and-swivel base. Smaller than a tennis ball, this “Little Giant” can be positioned just about anywhere.
Whether you use one of these cameras as a baby monitor, nanny cam, or as part of a home intercom or security system, we think you’ll find them affordably priced, especially considering their impressive lists of features. In fact, you might even want to buy more than one — and at these prices, you probably can!
