How To Add Warmth to Your Poolscape this Winter: Firepits & More

Last updated on February 18, 2021 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Maybe this winter, you’re completely over all the farmhouse decorations that bear the phrase that once sounded so inviting: Let’s. Stay. Home. Once the holidays are over and winter stretches on, it can be depressing for many, whether or not they’re officially identified as having a medical condition such as a vitamin D deficiency or Seasonal Affective Disorder (also known as SAD).

Well, there’s more that you can do about the winter blues than hope and dream and plan for brighter, warmer days, when you can again enjoy your backyard swimming pool. (However, we do hope that doing that does bring you a spark of joy!) Believe it or not, you can create some ways to delight in your outdoor oasis, even when the snow is flying.

Added Amenities

In a previous winter related blog post, we suggested the addition of a spa or Jacuzzi® and gave you some tips for maximizing its use during the colder months. You can further enhance your outdoor spa experience by adding a few premium amenities. One is a towel warmer. Oh, yes! As wonderful as that hot water streaming through jets and hitting you just right will feel, that cold air you’ll feel when your spa session is over can be a shocker. Splurge on the high-quality, extra-plush towels while you’re at it, too. The towel warmer can be used to heat a floor mat as well, allowing your toes to avoid becoming toe-cicles! For even more touches of warmth, consider candles, heat lamps, and some of your hot beverage of choice.

Fire Pits

Okay, so maybe this idea won’t be quite as attractive once the temps get below freezing, but a fire pit can still offer a cozy outdoor place to connect with others and with nature, once the swimming pool has been closed up. From a built-in stone structure to a freestanding metal fire pit which you can easily pick up at a local home and garden store, fire pits can greatly vary in both price and size.

Seating can be accomplished with simple, natural items such as logs left over from your (or your neighbor’s) last landscaping project. Scrap wood can also be hobbled together from wood pallets to create simple seating; alternatively, you could always just use stadium chairs which you may have already available. Grab a few blankets, ingredients for s’mores, and some favorite songs or stories, and maybe some hot cider. Then invite your favorite friends or family members to join you for a cozy evening outside.

You can even create a snow fort in which to enjoy your fire pit if you like. And if you decide that this whole fire pit thing is definitely something you want to do on the regular, you can incorporate sunken seating into your next brick and stonework patio redesign.
