How to Host the Perfect Fall or Winter Pool Party, Part 1

If you live in a milder climate, there’s no reason for your party guests to stay cooped up inside during the fall and winter months. You can host a warm and inviting pool party even if the temperature is cool outside. Here are some great ideas for throwing an autumn or winter bash in and around your backyard oasis.

In this first article in our series, we’ll look at some ways you can try to keep the area warm and pleasant for your guests.

1. Make Your Outdoor Space as Cozy as Possible

You can use a variety of creative ideas to make your outside area feel and look warmer. One great option is using electric space heaters. There is a vast assortment of different heaters on the market to suit different-sized patios.

Another obvious choice for an outdoor party is a crackling fire. You can build one large fire in a fire pit, or add sconces, fire bowls, and tiki torches for even more flame-inspired ambiance. You could grill your food outdoors and gather around the fire for some after-dinner s’mores.

2. Crank Up the Heat in Your Swimming Pool

If the weather is actually warm enough to make swimming a viable option for your party, be sure to bring your water up to a comfortable temperature. About 85 degrees Fahrenheit (about 29 Celsius) should be just about right for your fall or winter pool party.

In order to make your pool water warm enough for your festive occasion, run your pool’s heating system well in advance. You should start it a few days before the date of the party. The entire time the heater is on you should keep the pool covered with a solar cover to help trap in all that heat. In case you don’t already have one, solar pool covers are a great investment.

3. Open Up the Hot Tub

If you own a spa, this is the ideal time to use it. Even if you go to all the necessary trouble to turn up your pool heater, some of your guests still may not feel comfortable swimming in a heated pool this time of the year. The answer to these cold-sensitive guests is a bubbling hot spa.

Your spa offers the ultimate in luxury relaxation for your friends and family members. You can set the temperature just above 100 degrees for ideal fall and winter lounging. Turn up the jets, crank up the music, and get the party started! Just make sure all your guests are aware of safe soak time limits. No one should stay in the hot tub for more than 30 minutes at a time, and kids should be limited to just a few supervised minutes per soak.

4. Let Guests Know to Dress Appropriately for the Weather

Guests will greatly appreciate being given a heads-up in advance about the party taking place outside. Let them know that wearing layers, as well as jackets, hats, or other cool weather attire will make them feel more comfortable. Also, tell them that if they plan to take a plunge in the pool or hot tub, they’ll want to bring a large towel and bathrobe.

A fun outdoor fall or winter pool party begins with making sure your guests are warm and comfortable. In our next article we’ll take a look at some of the other great features you can add to make your harvest, holiday, or winter wonderland poolside gatherings even more memorable.
