You don’t need to feel limited by the calendar when it comes to throwing a pool party. If you live in a mild to moderate climate, you can still throw a successful pool party during the fun and festive fall and winter months. In our first article in this series, we took a look at some practical ways you can help keep your fall and winter pool party guests warm and comfortable. These included heating up your pool and spa, letting guests know what type of clothing to wear, and providing warmth to the area with fire and space heaters.
In this article, we’ll look at some more ways to make your fall or winter pool party a success.
1. Bring the Deck to Life with Extra Lighting
One thing to keep in mind for your fall or winter pool party is that the sun will set earlier this time of the year. That means that if your party is going to be in the late afternoon or evening, you’ll need to add plenty of lighting to the pool area. Not only is extra lighting an important safety feature around the water, but it’s also a great way to add a warm glow and sparkle to your backyard celebration.
You can start by making sure that your existing lighting is all turned on. This can include both exterior and interior pool lighting, as well as internal home lighting that can help illuminate the outdoor party space.
Once all of your regular lighting is being utilized, it’s time to get creative. For a holiday party, nothing could be more appropriate than strands of white or colorful Christmas lights. Just make sure to string them securely and at a safe distance from the pool. You could put them around several Christmas trees that could be placed in strategic locations throughout the patio area. For a fall party, you may want to try orange and yellow or purple and green strands of holiday lights instead of the typical colors used for Christmas.
Another great lighting option for any pool party is the tiki torch. These are great accents for pirate-themed parties, which are a terrific fall party option. You could also get some LED globe lights that match the color scheme of your party and float them throughout the pool.
2. Add Themed Decor to Make the Moment Magical
If you’re planning a specific theme for your party, the more festive decorations you can add that reinforce your theme, the better. Here are some ideas for making a big splash with your fall or winter pool party decorations.
For a fall/harvest themed party, consider adding plenty of pumpkins, gourds, and fall leaves to your outdoor decorating scheme. These can be set up in groupings along the edge of the pool and on patio tables. Find orange LED floats and floating pumpkins to put in the pool.
If you’re planning a Halloween pool party, all of the above will work, along with some spooky elements like fake spiderwebs, poolside jack-o-lanterns, bats, and black cats.
For a Christmas themed pool party, you can add the aforementioned Christmas trees strung with lights, along with plenty of light up yard ornaments such as reindeer, Santa, elves, and a Nativity scene.
In our next article, we’ll discuss the games, activities, and food options for the perfect fall or winter pool party.
