A backyard pool is frequently connected to exercising, entertaining guests, having fun, and resting. But perhaps you just aren’t into that sort of thing. As many reasons as there may be to own a swimming pool, we have a few – well, twelve reasons, to be exact – to support your decision to forgo this frequently recommended method of raising the quality of life for you and your family.
You’d Rather Let Your Body Waste Away
Swimming gives some of the best health advantages compared to living either a sedentary lifestyle or regularly taking part in even more demanding exercises like jogging. Swimming offers many of the same benefits as other activities while putting less stress on your joints and muscles, because it exerts 25% less physical stress on your body than higher impact exercises. You should avoid swimming, especially if you enjoy experiencing joint pain and suffer from arthritis. You might even prefer the dangers of being a “couch potato” when it comes to activity levels. In that scenario, having your own backyard pool is a risk because it might tempt you to exercise!
You’re Not Concerned With Heart Health
The benefits of swimming for cardiovascular health are beyond dispute. Running may provide these same advantages; however, running tends to place long term wear and tear on your legs, knees and feet, resulting ultimately in tight muscles, swelling feet, and knee issues. But there is really no downside when you get a great aerobic exercise in the pool. You might even feel inclined to exert more effort in order to reap bigger advantages, like increasing your cardiovascular endurance. But why would you want to do that if you actually don’t care about heart health?
You Would Rather Stay Weak
Swimming is the best exercise for boosting muscular endurance and strength, even more so than bodybuilding, thus water sports can benefit more than just your cardiovascular health. Swimming targets both primary and secondary muscle groups as a total-body workout. But isn’t weakness frequently underestimated? Stay away from any type of pool if you are all for keeping those muscles flabby!
You Prefer to Be Inconvenienced
I think it’s safe to say that we all recognize how spoiled we already are in our culture. A backyard pool is most likely not your style if you prefer to go primitive camping far away from civilization versus being served and pampered at a full-service resort. Why bother with running across town to the neighborhood pool or gym, where you can also enjoy the added benefit of getting rid of extra money by paying monthly fees? If you have a bone or muscle ailment, you could use weighted wraps and water weights in the privacy of your own pool, but you might prefer the increased inconvenience of having to leave home for these advantages.
Here are four more reasons why a backyard pool might not be the best choice for you – if you’re still not entirely persuaded that it is a terrible idea.
