Jack of All Trades … Master of One

Last updated on October 3, 2008 by Sozo Staff

“Jack of all trades…master of one.” This well-known description from way back when comes to my mind often when I peruse CFgear’s websites and write about them. If you visit their site, you don’t have to be the brightest crayon in the box to understand, at a glance, exactly what they sell—flash drives, and flash drives only. So, where in the world does this “jack of all trades…” fit into the picture, you ask? Well, to my not-quite-right brain, it comes to mind precisely because it so very much does not apply, except for the “…master of one” part.

I know nothing of the personal lives of the CFgear personnel, so it’s impossible for me to offer any insight into the individual application of the concept, but the company as a whole sure seems to function with one intense focus—flash drives, and flash drives only. From their Home page to their Custom Flash Drive Blog, they exude a passion for flash drives. That may sound strange, but it’s no more strange than the passion that Bill has for cheese. I doubt that you know Bill, unless you’re from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania—he’s the proprietor/owner/manager/“runner”/etc. of the (that’s right—there’s only one) cheese shop next to the town clock in the little village of Gap (Gap just got their 4th stoplight a few years ago). Bill’s family has been in the cheese business for 3 or 4 generations, and this is a man who is passionate about cheese. If you ever happen to wander into his shop, even if you don’t like cheese, you will, most likely, leave with at least a couple packages, hurrying to get home to start eating. It won’t be because he manipulated you; it will be because he infected you with his passion…in his case, a passion for cheese.

Bill sells only cheese and its accoutrements. With the same kind of focus, CFgear sells only flash drives and directly-related accessories. When you leave Bill’s shop, you can have everything you need to enjoy cheese. When you receive your shipment from CFgear, you can have everything you need to distribute ready-to-use custom branded flash drives (even in bulk) directly to clients, colleagues, or anybody else, for that matter. This singularity of focus makes specialty shopping a whole lot easier, since you don’t have to sort through a lot of extraneous products to narrow your selection. Your selection is merely among the myriad variations of what you want.

Therein lies the only drawback—the myriad options. With people so passionate about what they do, CFgear offers an incredibly wide range of options for flash drives (though, still, “flash drives only”), and decisions must be made…hard decision. From the executive style, leather covered, give-it-to-the-president, sophisticated VIP or Executive to the candy inspired, pocket sized, collect-every-color, everyone-needs-one, nothing-but-fun Skittledrive, CFgear covers the entire span of flash drives, and they’re expanding that span on a regular basis. They sell flash drives, and flash drives only, and they do a fine job of it!
