A Million Parts to Make An Auto

Last updated on October 2, 2008 by Sozo Staff

Have you ever taken a really good look under the hood of your vehicle? It doesn’t matter whether you drive a sports car or a utility truck—there are some pretty big parts under there. If you take a little extra time to crawl under the body of the vehicle (Note: This would be easier with the truck than with that sports car), you’ll find even more, possibly even bigger parts under there, too. You may not have thought it all through before, but a lot of research and engineering went into all of those parts, and it’s certainly not magic holding them all together.

How often do we take all of those parts for granted (along with a whole lot else, I’m sure)? Unless we’re auto mechanics or car restoration buffs, do we ever stop to think through the wonder of the fact that our everyday transportation consists of a vast collection of parts that stay all together (most of the time) in one mass and somehow manage to propel said mass at amazing rates of speed? Those who have had the parts fail to stick together at some point during the faster rates of speed probably think about it a great deal, but how about the rest of us? Although we generally consider a vehicle as one object, each of those tens of thousands of parts has to be manufactured just right for the success of the whole vehicle, and that is just one of many factors.

All throughout the manufacturing of all those parts, there are essential cleaning steps, and companies like Three M Tool, of York, Pennsylvania, have worked with major automobile parts manufacturers to design custom wire baskets for degreasing automobile parts. Remember those really big parts under the hood and under the car? Some of them are big enough to require handling with cranes, and Three M Tool has the solution for them, too. They have a whole collection of baskets for crane-fed processes already designed and ready for production, and besides that, they have a team of engineers that work with customers to design industrial grade wire baskets to perfectly suit the needs of those customers’ specific applications.

Size and shape are not the only flexible aspects of design in manufacturing of industrial wire baskets, although there seem to be very few limits in that regard. Besides that side of things, Three M Tool offers a pretty wide range of options on the wire mesh, as well. In addition, with the wide variety of options in material and surface finish available, ranging from the raw form of the material to finishing with various coatings, the possibilities for custom wire racks and baskets are endless…literally. There are so many possibilities, making it possible to provide baskets for every conceivable automobile part (from the smallest set screw to the frame of the vehicle), that Three M Tool has the automotive parts manufacturing industry pretty well covered, at least as far as their baskets for degreasing are concerned.
