NuCedar: A Manufactured Product that Breaks the Mold

Even though our main business is 100% organic, natural lumber, we’re not completely against truly green composite building materials. At the same time, we’ve found composite decking materials to be far from being as environmentally friendly or as long-lasting as premium tropical hardwood decking, and we’ve had similar experiences with many of the composite siding and trim options out there. Until now. Unlike other manufactured products that are only partially recyclable and utilize not-so-environmentally-friendly methods of production, NuCedar breaks the mold.

In contrast with the typical manufactured products that are stamped or poured into a mold, NuCedar is milled just like lumber. This sawn material has a finished appearance similar to that of wood, and can be used to create many products, ranging from moulding and trim to vertical siding, clapboard siding, and shingles. Available in an impressive selection of 18 colors, NuCedar boasts that their products have “a finish that looks like painted cedar but is much more durable.” Even more impressive than their claim is the durability of their finishing process, which rivals that of automotive finishing and the fact that it comes with a 25-year transferable warranty.

Particularly for waterfront homes that are unusually subjected to the elements, this truly low-maintenance product gives homeowners more opportunities to enjoy their views, instead of having to spend any extra time maintaining their siding.

As a builder, it’s ideal to use the same product for an entire siding and trim package for which you can do all the finishing work ahead of time. From easier coordination of finishing products to smoother installations, so many variables are removed from the equation. Add to that, the fact that this product’s LEED-level sustainability helps you establish a reputation for environmentally friendly work, while eliminating the costly endeavor of waiting for and employing a subcontractor to paint and stain your project. The easy installation also contributes to a tighter, more reliable timeline, which saves you and your clients valuable time and money. Your client and your reputation will reap the benefits of NuCedar years and decades down the road, when unnecessary maintenance continues to save homeowners money and keep the referrals rolling in. In the meantime, those short optimal windows of time for such installations will let you work in more jobs each year.
