Rehmeyer’s Pioneer Collection offers the timeless beauty of custom hardwood flooring with character. No two floors are alike. Sold unfinished and sanded and finished on site, the Rehmeyer flooring experts ensure a truly custom approach.

Each species option includes boards of random widths and lengths. Widths range from 3 to 6 inches, while lengths can be anywhere from18 to 120 inches. Each of the 8 species available in the Pioneer Collection offers a unique combination of coloring and grain.

In addition to Wormy Maple, Walnut, White Oak, and Cherry featured in Part 1, we offer the following species options.

Hickory

With an impressive combination of sound knots and other character marks, Pioneer Collection Hickory flooring provides high contrasts of color between the heartwood and sapwood. The versatility and durability of our character-grade Hickory flooring makes it a long-lasting option that’s anything but boring. We recommend square-edged boards for a seamless look, while our soft-edge, pre-sanded option helps accentuate available custom-milled wide planks. For both traditional and contemporary design, our Hickory flooring is an attractive addition.

Pine

Varieties of Pine for your Pioneer Collection floor include Eastern White Pine, Longleaf Southern Pine, and Reclaimed Heart Pine. Each possesses pronounced grain pattern and knots and character marks that are unique to the specific species. Eastern White Pine is the softest of the three varieties we use, and the gorgeous grain and character of Eastern White Pine provides a graceful background for the simple life. Longleaf Southern Pine can be classified as new-growth Heart Pine. It’s often cut from century-old trees and boasts warm tones and amazing natural character.

Reclaimed Heart Pine floors are definitely trending right now. In their first life, the Heart Pine wood may have been used over a century ago for bridges, barns, or mills. We give this lumber new life by re-sawing and milling it into wide-plank flooring with distinctive strength and durability combined with an already aged patina look that hints at the hard-working heritage of this great nation.

Red Birch

Similar to Cherry, Red Birch has a silky grain that we showcase with our unique milling methods. Red Birch is an extremely hard wood, ideal for high-traffic areas and families with kids and pets. We love how it looks with our pre-sanding and soft edges options and then finished with Tung Oil!

Red Oak

One of the great things about Red Oak is its high availability and resulting low price. Combined with its durability, hardness, and stability, those qualities have helped Red Oak to become a favorite flooring species. Of course, that can be a negative characteristic for those who desire a custom floor. Rehmeyer takes Red Oak to a new level by carefully sourcing unique character-grade Red Oak that includes knots and grain that provides additional texture and interest.

Any of our Pioneer Collection species can be installed with these specialty options such as pre-sanding with soft edges or micro-bevel, flush pegs, Tung Oil finish, or a variety of matching accessories. Any of those additional options will increase the character of your one-of-a-kind floor.
