Installing a home security system for your home is a big decision (see Parts 1 & 2). You want to make sure that whatever system you go with has all the features necessary to serve as an effective deterrent and warning system. In this article, we’ll explore how the X10 SecuriLink does just that.
What the X10 SecuriLink Home Security and Automation System Looks Like in Action
Imagine that you’ve purchased and set up your X10 SecuriLink System. What can you expect to happen if there should ever happen to be a break-in? That’s our next topic of discussion in this article.
Get Ready for an Attention-Grabbing Alarm
First of all, when the intruder is picked up by the system’s detectors and sensors, a loud 95-decibel siren will begin blaring. To get an idea of how loud this alarm is, think of a typical radio in your home with the volume turned all the way up. It will definitely get both the home invader and anyone else in or near the home’s attention.
Expect an Automated Phone Call Warning
At the same time the alarm is going off, you’ll be getting a call to your phone from the automatic dialing system. First, it will contact you. If you’re unreachable, it will call whichever other five numbers you have programmed into the phone. You’d want to choose people in your neighborhood whom you trust or perhaps relatives or close friends. Whoever answers the call first can alert the authorities. The message on the automated call will be one that you’ve recorded of yourself saying that there may be a burglary going on at your house. Then, if you want to hear what is going on in the house, simply push any button on the touchtone telephone and you will be able to hear from inside the home. You can use the information you glean from that phone call to help you figure out if the alarm was set off by accident by one of your family members or if you need to call the police.
Protect Multiple Entrances with Sensors
Some well-known security companies give you only two or even just one security sensors on your home’s doors or windows. Most homes have plenty more accessible entry areas than just one or two! These same companies may be willing to up the number of sensors they give you, but you’ll have to pay extra fees on top of your already expensive monthly security payments.
With the X10 SecuriLink system, you’ll receive five sensors that you can place on doors and windows that would be most likely to be used by an intruder. This would cover a couple of first-floor windows, the front door, side door, and back door. The more sensors you have in place, the less likely a home invader will be to gain access to your home undetected.
In our next article in this series, we’ll continue looking at how the X10 SecuriLink Home Security system actually works when you need it most. Then you can decide if it’s the right option for you.
