Save Money When You Add an In-Ground Swimming Pool, Part 1

Last updated on March 8, 2018 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

One of the many factors that plays into your decision to add an in-ground swimming pool to your family’s back yard is, undoubtedly, the financial aspect. And understandably so. But sometimes, in considering the added expense, people fail to consider, first, that financing is available, and second, that there are other costs that they can subtract. In all likelihood, the addition of a swimming pool will allow you to eliminate other expenses from your family budget. Let’s take a peek at a few of the key ways that an in-ground swimming pool can save you money in other areas.

Eliminate Pricey Vacations

We get it: everyone wants to get away from it all. But in reality, many of us end up more stressed after traveling than we did before we embarked on our last trip. (How many times have you heard someone say that they “need a vacation after their vacation”?) Not only does a family trip take plenty of planning and the added stress related to assembling all the necessary reservations, but it also takes a lot of cash. Plane tickets and/or car rentals and gas money combine with hotel night stays, restaurant meals, and entertainment venues, often adding up to thousands of dollars. (According to one travel writer’s estimate, a week’s vacation for a family of 4 averaged about $4300.) And when you get home, all you have to show for it is a few photos and a T-shirt or two.

Well, you can eliminate the added expenses when your back yard becomes the perfect stay-cation destination! Not only will you avoid travel-related costs, but instead of spending time finding deals on hotels and coordinating reservations, you’ll be spending more time relaxing. Which saves you money in a different way. Which leads us to the second category of expenses that an in-ground pool helps you eliminate — or at least greatly reduce.

Eliminate Stress-Related Problems

According to research by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America,  “Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.” From chronic migraines and IBS to asthma and heart disease, anxiety affects a person’s overall health and — as a result — contributes to higher medical expenses.

While the causes of rising anxiety levels among Americans are many and varied, many psychiatrists agree that one potential contributing factor is lack of recreation and proper amounts of relaxation. As a result, in addition to psychotherapy and medication, many doctors and treatment centers recommend adding enjoyable forms of exercise and recreation to help avoid and treat anxiety. And guess what?! Swimming is certainly on the list! Not only does the physical activity of swimming provide relaxation, but the social aspect and calming impact of water, in general, combine to help counteract the stressors in your life.
