Smart Authors Publish Their Books on Custom Flash Drives

Last updated on August 10, 2010 by Sozo Staff 1 Comment

If you are an avid book reader, you can understand the comforts of curling up on a rainy day with the newest Stephenie Meyer’s thriller (or if you’re not into the vampire thing, then maybe a new Nicholas Spark’s book). However, have you ever found that sometimes holding a stiff book isn’t always that comfortable? Or, that keeping a book nice isn’t always that easy. It may end up stained and torn over time. Worse yet, have you ever noticed that when you loan a book to a friend that they’ve spilled so much coffee on it that the pages are permanently stuck together?

With technology ever changing and e-readers becoming increasingly popular, it is understandable that readers are now looking to electronic forms of their favorite books. They may enjoy the flexibility and advantages that reading a book on a laptop may give. You can sit the laptop in your lap without fear of it closing like a book would. You wouldn’t have to constantly have a hold on to a laptop like you would with a book.

Perhaps authors should consider publishing books onto flash drives. Some people would rather read a book electronically, but don’t want to pay $249 for a Kindle. An entire book could be published onto a one of a kind, customized flash drive. Readers would be able to purchase this easily transportable flash drive and be reading in no time.

pile of booksCFgear could customize a flash drive specified to the author’s requests. The casing could in your color of choice and include the author’s name and the title of the book imprinted onto the flash drive. There may even be room for the publisher’s logo. The flash drive could be rectangle like a book, or even square, round, or oval.

If the novel is a part of a previously published series, perhaps the earlier editions could be included as a bonus on the flash drive. There could also be a sneak peak chapter into the next book in the series.

There could also be a bonus section where there is information about the author. There could even be an interview Q&A video or audio session with the author preloaded onto the flash drive. Links to the publisher’s or author’s websites could be included.

For authors that like their fans to have a little fun, they may want to consider setting up a section for trivia games. The reader can take a little break from reading to play a few games of “Who said it: Edward or Jacob?”

The are so many possibilities for placing an entire book, games, interviews, bonus features, and more onto a customized flash drive. CFgear’s patented INSTARUN technology allows a picture to pop up instantly. Perhaps it could be a picture of the author. Even better, maybe it could be a video thank you message from the author to her fans.

The author would simply provide CFgear with all of the files (ranging from JPEG to PDF) that she wants included. Their patented Pulse technology ensures accurate duplication of each and every flash drive.

If the author wants to advertise the publishing of her book onto a flash drive, perhaps she could create a contest. In the television and radio commercials, a contest involving the flash drive editions of her book could be announced. Maybe 1 in every 500 flash drives sold will offer a free copy of her next book. Maybe 1 in every 1,000 flash drives will offer a signed copy of the book. Or, perhaps 1 in every 100,000 flash drives will have an exclusive offer to spend the day with the author at her next book signing. If fans are aware of a high demand contest, they will be more likely to purchase.

So instead of cramping your hands holding a thick, stiff book, perhaps the next thing could be flash drive versions. But, be warned, if you loan a flash drive to a friend, they may just “forget” to return it!
