Using Flash Drive Technology in the Healthcare Field

Last updated on January 14, 2011 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

We all know that technology has greatly enhanced not only our quality of life, but also our life span. Advanced technology allows for earlier detection and treatment, as well as more comfortable, discreet treatment of certain diseases. Surgeries can be performed laparoscopically, with less recovery time. Overall, advancements in technology have greatly enhanced the health care field.

However, we often forget about the small advancements that can also mean the difference between life and death. For example, how can a tiny, transportable flash drive change our health care system? There are numerous settings to apply the use of a flash drive.

In elementary and high schools, a school nurse can keep all of a student’s medical history, allergies, medications, and contact information safely stored on a flash drive. Should she be called to an emergency on the other side of the building, she can simply insert the flash drive into the teacher’s computer and instantly access the student’s information. Although it may appear the student is having an asthma attack, she notices that he is allergic to peanuts. The information on the flash drive allows her to analyze the situation, make a decision, and administer the proper medication. Should the student have been unconscious or unable to speak, she wouldn’t have had the proper information to know what was wrong.

Should the student need a parent to pick him/her up, she can quickly access that information on the flash drive. Because a typical high school nurse may be in charge of hundreds, if not more, students each day, the flash drive can provide instantaneous access to life-saving medical information. The nurse can carry all of the student’s files with her at all times.

The nurse can also input data into the files at any time. Should she administer a medication, she can note that on the student’s record. She can also note vital signs, symptoms, etc. This information will come in handy should the student need to go to the doctor or hospital. It also serves as a record of each and every one of the nurse’s actions.

Each year, students will graduate and a new round of youngster will come in. A flash drive can be updated at any time. She can delete information from students who have graduated and add information from the kindergartners. If students’ medical history, medications, or allergies change, she can quickly access their file and do an update. The flash drive can be password protected to ensure the privacy of the students.

Providing school nurses with flash drives is yet another advancement in medical technology that can ensure prompt and effective treatment, as well as ensure accurate and up to date medical records. Imagine replacing hundreds or thousands of paper charts with one easily transportable device. CFgear can help your school custom design a flash drive that is sure to please the school nurses. Think it’s too late in the year to implement this technology? CFgear has expanded rush delivery options to locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Get your flash drives in a matter of days, not weeks.
