X10 security for the vacationing family

Last updated on September 20, 2008 by Sozo Staff

We’re getting ready to head on vacation to upstate New York.  It’s been a while since I was there, and two of my children have never been.  The oldest was there once, when he was three months old.  I think it’s about time they went up to see their grandparents and great-grandmother!

Now, I don’t want you to think they have never seen their grandparents; they just haven’t seen them in their own home.  Part of the reason for this is the fact that the older two, ages 4 and 2, get carsick.  Yuck!  Nobody looks forward to a 7+ hour drive with two children who get sick!  The last trip we took was a 4 hour drive and they got sick enough with that to make any sane person think again before planning another trip.

One of the hardest tasks of getting ready for a trip is getting all the laundry done and packed up.  After all, there are 5 of us, that makes for a lot of things to remember.  Diapers, Pulls Ups, swim diapers, underwear . . . the list goes on and on!  Oh, and then we have to try to fit it all into the van, along with the five of us of course.  Yikes!  We can’t forget the fact that we will be spending the night en route to try to break up the trip (and get the use of a pool!) so that means we have to think about what needs to be packed on top and what should be on the bottom because we won’t need it en route.  It sure does get complicated!

Of course we can’t forget to stop the mail while we’re gone and take care of things in the house.  We certainly don’t want to leave any dirty diapers in the diaper pail or food in the trash cans.  Naturally, we need to make sure the house is as secure as possible for our time away. . . now that’s one we still need to work on.

I think perhaps the thing for us to invest in would be the X10 Security Products.  The DS7000 Protector Plus Home Security System looks like just the right thing for our simple house.  With it’s PS561 Voice Dialer Security Console and the SH624 Security Remote Control it looks like it would work very well for our needs.  These items are combined with motion sensors and door and window sensors to help detect the breech of security.  I found information about this system and other X10 products at The Home Automation Store website.

Once we have the home buttoned down and ready for our departure, we should be in good shape.  Now if we can just get those kids to keep their stomachs in place we’ll be off and running for our trip to the grandparents.
